SERAPIS x UNPRT candleholders, Marine Assembly 1 ,2 & 3.
Exclusively on SERAPIS.CC
‘Marine Assembly’ handmade and crafted aluminium candleholders with unique engraved sketches designed and produced in collaboration with @serapismaritime
Emulating the materiality, feeling an uncomfortable warmth of engine rooms, each item is designed to work on its own or as a larger choir of assembled sketches, like abstract notes on a hull’s surface.
Ideal piece for a maritime litany or a candle lit gathering.
The candle holders were shown as part of the ‘Candlelight’ group show at Basia Embiricos gallery during the @parisdesignweek
This capsule collection of unique objects is the initial result of a collaboration between the two studios: Serapis & Un.Processed Realities. This collaboration stems from shared values around the creation of objects, a love for the ritual, gestural and that which pertains to memory, as well as a common practice for small production. The design process is based on experimentation but following a minimal material and energy consumption.
The candleholders are inspired by the culture and materiality of the maritime industry. The material is aluminum which has been processed using hand-craft techniques in order to transform the object into a container that bears the traces of the spirituality of the maritime world, communicating its energy, emotion, and imagination.
Each sketch on the candle holders is a part-assembly of a larger piece, like the holy bread, creating a larger work out of the entire collection. The engraved sketches are like notes that participate in the ritual of the candle burning and extinguishing.
