‘I am M., the caretaker.
I was placed here to keep. Devoted to maintain this threshold. The passage.
I do not sing, I do not seduce, I am only present.
Bound from the beginning to watch, not to wander.
Once, I think, I had a voice. A face. Weight.
Time thinned me. I became one with the passage. No, I am the passage.
I am the one who stays. So others can move.’
The Caretaker is an entity occupying a liminal space between myth and reality, not as a narrative figure but as a constructed presence: the caretaker of this threshold. The caretaker is a woman, a siren of form rather than action. Static and trapped: a projection that simply exists, while movement and time ripple around her.
